This week in the Turkish Super League – Round 31

The 31’st round of the Turkish Super League could see a new champion crowned, the battle for second place intensify and more twists and turns among the teams striving to stay in the division.

The week kicks off with Gençlerbirliği and Bursaspor who have both accumulated 41 points in 30 games. With both clubs aiming for Europa League next season the two sides should field attacking line-ups leading to an exciting game of football.

Trabzonspor v Gaziantepspor is the only fixture being played on Saturday. The home side are still unbeaten under new manager Hami Mandirali and have only suffered two defeats at home all season. Gaziantepspor on the other hand have lost four and drawn one of there last five games and have slipped down to 13th spot. Another loss for the away side could see them edging dangerously close to the relegation zone.

The rest of the fixtures for this week will be played on Sunday at 17:00 GMT due to the TFF’s initiative to make the league fairer towards the end of the season. Fenerbahçe have the opportunity to secure the league title if they beat an in-form Rizespor. The Black sea based side have recorded three back-to-back wins on the road but Fenerbahçe are unbeaten at home this season and are heavy favourites to lift the title on Sunday.

In the race for second place Galatasaray take on Elazığspor while Beşiktaş travel to Sivas. Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Kasimpaşa last week and the Istanbul giants will be eager to bounce back with a win. The Istanbul giants have however been poor away from road and are without an away win in six weeks.

Beşiktaş who have also been struggling away from home in recent weeks take on an in-form Sivasspor who have won seven of their last ten games at home. A draw could see Beşiktaş slip down to 3rd spot.
